Comparing the GDPR and Hong Kong: Overview

This article provides a comparative overview of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Hong Kong's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (PDPO). The key takeaway is that the GDPR is significantly broader, stricter, and carries heavier penalties than the Hong Kong ordinance. Hong Kong organisations processing EU residents' data must comply with the additional requirements of the GDPR.  This is so even if the Hong Kong organisation is not operating in the EU.
